While we know that stars are multi-faceted and known to dabble in various things, there are some who are known to write poetry or shayaris like Farhan Akhtar, Ayushmann Khurrana and Kalki Koechlin. While we know that Deepika Padukone is known to be quite a sports person, having played badminton in national level championships but a lesser known fact that we have come to know exclusively is that Deepika Padukone also writes poems.
Interestingly, Deepika says she had written a poem as a child. “Yes, I have. I won't say shayari's but in school when I was in the 6th standard, we had to write a poem on I Am. It's interesting you asked that because I still have that poem, it's on my board on my desk and every now and then I look at it and I am like oh, I could have been, that could have been my alternate failed profession. But yeah, it is fun you know, sometimes when you look back at things that you have done as a child and if you have saved them or preserved them and you think about how you thought as a young girl its funny. It's funny but it's also sweet and hopefully one day I will be able to share that with everyone."
Yesterday Meghna Gulzar, Deepika and Vikrant Massey released an audio-visual poetry, Ab Ladna Hai. Written by legendary director-writer-poet, Gulzar, exclusively for the movie, the inspiring poem was recited by Deepika herself. The movie is based on the life of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal and stars the actress and Vikrant Massey. The actress says she was inspired when she heard the words. “I was emotional in an inspiring way. I feel like the lines are extremely powerful. When you talk about Ab Ladna Hai, it talks about you know the human spirit which is in line with the film and it also you know, the video kind of throws light on how it is important for all of us to make a change internally in whatever small way that we can so, for example, if you want to see a cleaner environment around you than that has to begin at home. If we want to change as a society then our outlook and the ways we conduct ourselves also has to change. So, in a way, it talks about bringing about change and with that journey and that change starts in small ways and that journey has to begin with us. Most importantly it talks about the human spirit which is also Malti's journey through Chhapaak as well."
Unlike other audio-visuals, the Chhapak poem has a description: “Ab Ladna Hai is a poetic expression of the core emotions that we preserve in our hearts. This poem, written by Gulzar Saab is a beacon to drive a much-needed change in society. Because a beginning is the foundation of transformation. Let’s turn. Let’s awaken. Let’s begin. Kyunki Ab Ladna Hai,’ and begins with ‘Dekh samajh ke gaur karna hai, Thodi si koshish aur karna hai, Ab ladna hai…” When asked about sharing her thoughts on the poem, when Meghna told her that she had to recite a poem, Deepika says, “I think there were different versions of what this could have become creatively. But I think instantly what I was most drawn to, were the lines that Gulzaar saab has written. I think that the lines in itself were extremely powerful and that's what drew me to this as a creative piece and then, of course, like I said there were different iterations of it and eventually we have gone with what everyone has seen."
